Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a percentage of a number?
Multiply the number by the percentage and divide by 100. For example, 15% of 80 = 80 × 15 / 100 = 12.
How do I calculate percentage increase?
Subtract the old value from the new value, divide by the old value, then multiply by 100: (new − old) / old × 100. Going from 50 to 65 is a 30% increase.
What's the difference between percentage points and percent?
Going from 10% to 15% is an increase of 5 percentage points, but a 50% relative increase. Percentage points compare absolute differences between percentages; percent compares relative change.
